What Is the Dollar General Penny List?
If you’re new to my little corner of the internet, welcome — I’m Danielle, and one of my favorite things to share with you all is the Dollar General Penny List. If you’ve ever wondered what it is or how it works, here’s a quick breakdown in my own words.
⭐ So… what exactly is the Penny List?
At Dollar General, items that have been in clearance for a while eventually drop all the way down to just one penny. These items are meant to be pulled from the shelves by employees, but sometimes they get missed — and that’s when we penny shoppers get lucky! Every week (usually on Friday or Saturday), I share the newest list, so you know what to look for.
⭐ Penny Shopping Rules
To keep your shopping easy, fun, and stress-free, here are the rules I personally follow and always recommend:
Never ask employees about penny items. They are supposed to pull the items from the sales floor and remember this is not a “Penny Sale” as I hear a lot of people who are new call it.
If it rings up for a penny, they must sell it to you. There’s no limit and no special permission needed. Keep in mind that a store can refuse service (at least where I am located) so be kind.
Be respectful. Don’t make a mess, don’t block aisles, and don’t argue. A good attitude goes a long way.
Use your DG app to scan items. If it shows $0.00 in your store, you found a winner.
Know that not every store will have the same items. Inventory varies, so treat penny shopping like a treasure hunt and have fun. Sometimes we score big and sometimes its a bust, just have fun.
If the item is recalled or expired, they do not have to sell the item to you. This is for safety reasons.
