When this happens, the item is supposed to be pulled from the shelves by store staff.

However, sometimes items are missed — and that’s where savvy shoppers like us come in! If you find one of these items still on the shelf and it rings up for $0.01, you can purchase it (unless it’s recalled or expired). It’s a thrill every time you find one — almost like a little treasure hunt! 🪙✨

Always scan your items in the DG App before checking out. The app’s price checker (set to the store location you are shopping in) can help you confirm penny items before you get to the register, just remember the registers price is the final price.
