What Is Dollar General Penny Shopping?

Dollar General penny shopping happens when discontinued items in Dollar General’s system drop to $0.01 at the register. These items are meant to be removed from store shelves, but sometimes they are missed. They are typically seasonal items that are being discontinued.

Please note:

Penny shopping is not guaranteed
Penny items can vary by store and location
Items are supposed to be pulled from the sales floor
Availability can be different for everyone (YMMV)

Penny Shopping Rules & Etiquette

At Roll Out Savings, we strongly encourage ethical and respectful penny shopping.

🚫 Do NOT ask Dollar General employees about penny items
🚫 Do NOT ask employees to check the backroom
🚫 Do NOT argue if an item does not ring up for a penny

✔️ If an item rings up for $0.01, great
✔️ If it does not, simply move on
✔️ Always be polite and respectful to store staff

Employees do not control penny pricing and should never be put in an uncomfortable position.
